Everyone loves a cool, refreshing treat in the summer heat, but traditional popsicles and ice creams can be high on sugar and low on… everything else, as far as nutrition is concerned.

That’s why we’re hitting you with a handful of mix-and-match options to create some sweet treats you can feel good about eating (and serving).

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Snag some popsicle sticks at your local grocer or craft store and find a mold that works for you. Fancy popsicle molds are stunning, but a regular old ice cube tray can do the trick just as well!

FOR THOSE WHO TRACK

If you track calories and/or macros, the math on these is easy since we are keeping ingredients to a minimum. You’ll simply account for the nutritional profiles of your liquid base, protein, fruits, and any other add-ins and then divide by how many popsicles you’re making to get a per-serving macro count.

WHEY PROTEIN POWDER

Base: milk or milk alternative of choice (almond, coconut, cashew, hemp, oat, etc.)

Protein: Promix Unflavored, Indonesian Vanilla, Raw Chocolate, Peanut Butter, or Chocolate Peanut Butter Whey Protein Powder

Nut or seed butter: peanut, almond, hazelnut, cashew, sunflower, tahini. If you are trying to cut down on fat, try Promix Peanut Butter Powder or Chocolate Peanut Butter Powder

Optional sweetener: honey or agave

When you blend a creamy, omega-rich nut butter with our whey and freeze, you’ll get a sweet & salty frozen popsicle that provides a ton of flavor and lots of healthy fats.

WHEY ISOLATE

Promix Whey Protein Isolate is produced seasonally for the best possible product, so it’s only natural you pair it with ripe, seasonal summer berries.

Base: milk or milk alternative of choice (almond, coconut, cashew, hemp, oat, etc.)

Protein: Promix Unflavored Whey Isolate or Chocolate Whey Isolate Protein Powder

Fresh, in-season fruits: cherries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries

Optional sweetener: one half or one full banana

High in protein and quality carbohydrates from the addition of fruit at its peak, a quick blitz of whey isolate and berries in a blender with some rest time in the freezer makes a refreshing post workout snack that will replenish muscles without weighing you down.

CASEIN

Chocolate Protein Fudge Pops

Since casein protein is ideal when consumed before bed, Promix Casein Protein is a natural for dessert!

Base: milk or milk alternative of choice (almond, coconut, cashew, hemp, oat, etc.)

Protein: Promix Unflavored Casein Protein Powder or Chocolate Casein Protein Powder

Sweet treats: cocoa powder, dark chocolate chips, unsweetened coconut flakes, crushed nuts

Optional sweetener: one half or one full banana, honey, agave, coconut cream

While it might be tempting to go for more than one type of sweet mix-in, if you’re watching your calorie intake, try keeping the focus to just one and really enjoying it!

Always at odds with your sweet tooth? Don’t fight it! You can find plenty of ways satisfy your cravings throughout the day in our recipes section, including sweet breakfast options like chocolate oats, pancakes & waffles, power muffins, and protein breads as well as great smoothies and portable snacks like clean brownies and cookies for when you’re in a pinch. VEGAN PROTEIN

It’s extra important to use a blender for a vegan protein popsicle mixture to ensure the smoothest, creamiest result.

Base: milk alternative of choice (almond, coconut, cashew, hemp, oat, etc.) + 1tbsp or more of chia or flax seeds (let soak in the base to increase in volume – the additional fiber content is A+++).

Protein: Promix 100% USDA Certified Organic Pea Protein Isolate, Vegan B12, Raw Chocolate Vegan, or Chocolate Vegan

Natural thickeners: avocado, banana

Optional sweetener: agave

A vegan protein plus the rich texture of a high fat/high starch fruit is something you don’t want to miss. It’s so good it might as well be a milk shake.

MAKE IT KETO

Any of the above ideas can fit into a Ketogenic Diet with a few substitutions and tweaks!

Base: full fat dairy milk or a high-fat milk alternative of choice, like coconut, cashew, or hemp – just make sure there is no added sugar!

Flavor options: Most fruits will likely put you over your daily carb allowance, so opt for using high-fat ingredients like nut & seed butters, coconut, and avocado to keep carbs low without sacrificing texture and flavor.
