Men vs Women: Strength Training

ProMix Nutrition Strength Training for Men and Women

Q & A with Promix Founder & CEO, Albert Matheny

“Are there differences between men and women when it comes to strength training?”

Contrary to popular belief, there is very little difference between average men and women as far as training goes – that is to say, specialized workouts based entirely on gender aren’t necessary. Most major differences don’t reveal between genders unless athletes are operating at an incredibly high level of strength & fitness, and most of those differences are simply biological/anatomical.

Overall, men tend to add more muscle at faster rates because of higher levels of anabolic hormones, but aside from that, there is little reason to differentiate training methods between men and women if everyone is working at their threshold (1). Gender-oriented programs are only common because some men and women tend to have very different fitness goals.
