When to Take Your Protein Supplements & Nutritional Supplements

ProMix Nutrition Natural Protein Supplement Timing

Q & A with Promix Founder & CEO, Albert Matheny

“It seems like there is a ton of contradictory information on when to fuel. Some say skip breakfast and fast, others say breakfast is key. Some say to eat right after a workout, others say avoid it. Can you set the record straight and dispel any myths surrounding this topic?”

I wish there was a hard and fast rule I could prescribe, but the truth is that everyone is different. Intermitted fasting might work incredibly well for one person and be a total train wreck for another depending on biological and lifestyle factors. As a Registered Dietitian, I tend to experiment with every trend and lifestyle on my own body in addition to doing my research. This keeps me well-informed and able to speak to clients on individualized questions they might have on this subject. So while I have to say what you don’t want to hear – everyone is different and you have to do some work to find what works for you – I can tell you that if you train, you must time your eating to help your body be fueled for your workout and to recover quickly and optimally after. This means loading up on water & BCAAs before and during your workout to avoid dehydration and muscle wasting (1), and getting protein to your muscles (whether it’s from a whole food of from Promix Natural Protein Supplements) within 15-60 minutes post-training (2).
