Whey protein | Vegan protein
Q & A with Promix Founder & CEO, Albert Matheny
“I don’t have any dietary restrictions, I’m simply looking for the healthiest, natural protein powder I can find. What is the main difference between Promix grass-fed whey protein and the vegan protein powders?”
This is a great question – I’ll try to keep the answer brief!
Grass-fed Whey Protein
Our grass-fed whey protein is a protein powder that is easily and quickly digested (assuming you do not have an issue with a small amount of lactose*).
It is naturally high in key branched chain amino acids, or BCAAs (leucine, Valine, Isoleucine), which play an important role in maintaining and building lean muscle.
The taste – without flavor added – is very light, and slightly milky. Whey also contains calcium, which plays a vital role in supporting bone health and your neuromuscular system.
Lastly, our whey, due to cold-filtering and micro-filtration, has important immune factors present. These include glutathione, lactoferrin and immunoglobulins.
*The amount of lactose in one serving of our whey protein is similar to the lactose in a serving of hard cheese, like parmesan. Another helpful reference is that if you were to drink the equivalent amount of milk for grams of protein (about 20oz of milk) in our whey, you would consume more than 30g of lactose. Our whey has 1g of lactose for the same amount of protein, so about 30x less lactose.
Our vegan proteins are a great choice for those who are highly sensitive to lactose and/or wish to not consume animal products for other reasons.
Our vegan protein has one of the highest protein digestibility scores for any plant-based protein. With the isolated protein, we have mechanically removed nearly all of the carbohydrates and fiber that would impede digestion and absorption. This also makes for a higher protein per calorie ratio than nearly any other plant protein.
The only plant protein with a higher bioavailability is soy protein, but we do not recommend or produce soy protein for a host of environmental and health reasons.
Unlike other plant based proteins that are considered incomplete due to missing one or more amino acids, we have combined two complementary proteins, organic pea and organic rice, to produce a complete plant based protein. We will say that, given a well-rounded diet, most people consume all amino acids in enough quantity to have no issues taking a single form of plant based protein, but we combined the two because we understand this combination fully solves the need for most people.
People are increasingly conscious not only of macronutrients on a label or ingredients in a product, but how the longer term and broader reaching effects of their choices play out.
We are always thinking about the immediate health benefits of our formulas, but go one step further to ensure long term health and take care of our environment.
We support whatever choice you make, because we know it will be right for you.
